hand in day

so here we are, its hand in day and i haven't managed to get a final animation done in time, on the plus side i have now got an entire summer and i intend to use that time to make it right.
things to note for the next projects

  • include time for illness and unforeseen circumstances when figuring out a work scheduled
  • stop obsessing so much on the character design (even if it was fun)
  • stick to the timetable
  • if you know somethings going to take to long find a simpler way to do it
  • panicking doesn't help
all in all this project was actually quite enjoyable. I learnt a hell of a lot about animation even if I didn't get to implement any of it, finally got to have a go at designing unique characters, and by the end will have something i can be proud of for my portfolio.

well i'm off to hand in the work I did get done
ta ta for now

lightning effect

still playing around with effects i decided to try out a fast shocking effect animation

still no sign of thoes damn Copics

due to having to be shipped form japan my damn Copic markers still haven't turned up, so I thought I would at least work out the colour pallets I was going to use.

specific scene storyboarding

i made a few rough storyboards for some of the more key science just to help me work out all the motions in my head.
this is to be the most key scene, the confrontation between Lola and Blue, while only lola and skip are to be animated the live action parts were still roughly storyboarded to help ensure the animation flowed correctly

thease of course would be cleaned up later but it gives a rough idea of the scene

it mooooves!!!

the spin test for the ufo, animated in flash

developing frames

the second sketch book also acted as a flip book so i could test animation concepts without having to scan them in and test them via PC. this can be seen in the coners of the sketch book as you go through

sketch book 2

continuing with the test animations i started the next sketch book, here i focused on effect animations, a necessary step when blending 2d animation with live footage. the effects help the rotascoping process by making the characters seem to have an effect on the real world footage, this is achieved by making a live action effect and overlaying the animation effect, e.g. having ripples in the water accompanied by animated splash effects.
the first page was simply a few doodles as i was playing with the idea of adding more side characters in the narrative but decided against it as i felt it would overload the footage and use up too much time.

i also drew out a few test scenes and mirco narratives to help develop my understanding of the characters
